Carter's opened on Chestnut Street in late 2024 with a simple idea: great pizza, loaded cheesesteaks, and cold beer — no pretense. It took about a year and a half for the rest of Philly to catch on.

Right after opening, Carter's gave away 100 free cheesesteaks to 100 self-proclaimed connoisseurs — WooderIce covered it and the sandwiches held up under pressure. A Best of Philly nomination in 2026 made it official.
